The Regional Protection Sector groups together the Sub-sectors of Human Trafficking and Smuggling, Child Protection, Gender-based Violence and the Support Spaces Working Group. The regional Sector aims to strengthen protection response while enhancing the prevention of risks in a coordinated and coherent manner with national protection sectors to improve the provision of protection services and mechanisms to refugees and migrants from Venezuela. Prevention, identification, referral, and provision of assistance and protection services to persons with specific needs emphasizing ethnic, age, gender and diversity (AGD) principles is a priority, promoting effective inclusion in national protection systems to guarantee durable solutions. The Protection sector supports the inclusion of key protection elements in national response/contingency plans with regards to access to territory, registration and documentation, regularization, asylum systems, border monitoring, community outreach, including access to birth registration and confirmation of nationality, as well as key subjects linked to the right to adequate housing. This includes, among others, the promotion of training and awareness raising activities addressed to key protection stake holders, national authorities, regional networks and national sectors.
